Return of the hummingbird… Colibri 0.2.1 is out!

I just released version 0.2.1 of Colibri, the passive alternative to KDE4 plasma notifications. Here are the most important changes.

On the notifications themselves:

  • Consecutive notifications are now merged. This is quite handy when someone sends you three consecutive messages on IRC for example: instead of showing three bubbles on after the other, the current notification will grow and integrate the next message. This only happen for notifications from the same application, with the same title.
  • The notification bubble follows the Plasma look more closely: it features the same background halo behind text and can take advantage of blurred background when running on KDE 4.5.

The configuration module has been improved as well:

  • It is now possible to select on which monitor the notifications will appear.
  • A "Preview" button has been added.
  • It is easier to setup Colibri on your machine: the configuration module will warn you if another notification system is running and let you start Colibri if it is not running.

You can get the latest release from Colibri KDE-Apps page. I hope you like it!

What theme are you using? Plasma-theme.

  2. KenP says:

It looks good and less ‘in-your-face’ than default plasma notifications. However, I don’t see progress bars anymore for things like file transfers, downloads etc.

Is there a way to enable those?

    • Aurélien says:

This is weird: you should always get progress information, either as a Plasma extender (as before) or as an old-style dialog. Which version of KDE SC do you use?

  3. Dion Moult says:

Might consider this if they still refuse to make the default notification style smaller. It’s taking up a good third of my screen!

  4. manolin says:

Can you implemented actions? even if they are disabled by default? thanks.

    • Aurélien says:

Actions go in the way of the click-through feature of Colibri. I have some ideas in mind to work-around this, but haven’t had time to play with them yet.

It would be nice to see Colibri implemented on KDE by default. Plasma notifications seem so out of place, these days, within the Plasma desktop clashing with all its transparency and, now, its blur effect, and with its smooth effects (graphical effects, thumbnails transitions, etc). Is there any chance Colibri gets an active notification system to cover such functionalities as progress information and buttons integration?

Also, any plans to provide a PPA in order to use always the latest version available, please? I tried to compile the source files, but have never done that, and I get an endless list of errors. Many thanks for you work on Colibri!

  6. […] new version of Colibri has been released, Colibri 0.2.1. It brings a number of improvements both with the notifications […]

  7. Hi Aurélien,
Is there a bugtracker somewhere? It seems that colibri doesn’t take position preference into account on multiple display desktop.
